Sorgin Dantza - Lasarte-Oria

The Sorgin Dantza (Witch Dance) appears to have originated with workers at cotton mills in the middle of the nineteenth century, many of whom are said to have come from the Bergara area. The dance was revived in 1948, but fell into disuse again for over 30 years. In 1982 the Ibargi dance group revived it again and in 1994 Oriako Sorgin Dantzaren Lagunak Kultur Elkartea was founded to preserve and perpetuate the dance.

This carnival dance, presided by a captain, is done in two lines. One line formed by sorginak (men dressed as peasant women) and the other by Intxixuak (men dressed in white and wearing red cone-shaped hats.
