Ateak Ireki

Ateak IrekiWe are very excited to announce that Ateak Ireki, the program aimed at youth between the ages of 16-25, is coming back again for 2024!   The program will be held June 22nd to July 14th. Thess three weeks not only allow participants to learn more about their Basque culture, but also allows them to attend weekly Euskera immersion classes at Maizpide Barnetegi.  The schedule and curriculum have been adjusted to allow more Euskara classes and some dance and music classes as well, along with more interaction with host families and the local culture.

Participants will stay with host families in Goierri, Gipuzkoa and the program includes visits to other parts of the Basque Country and events outside Goierri. Thanks to the generosity of program sponsors, there is no fee to participate in Ateak Ireki 2024. Succesful applicants are only required to cover their roundtrip travel to the Basque Country as well as health insurance. There are limited slots available for this year’s program depending on housing. Priority will be given to NABO members and to prior attendees of Udaleku and last year’s participants will be eligible to apply as well. To apply, please visit the Ateak Ireki website. NABO's Ateak Ireki Coordinator, Argia Beristain, and Jean Flesher, NABO president, are both happy to answer any questions you may have. Please email Argia at or Jean at Don’t miss out on this unique opportunity designed for Basque American youth!
