Ateak Ireki
November 1st marked the opening for the application period for the 2025 Ateak Ireki Program. This program, aimed at youth between the ages of 16 and 25, provides participants the opportunity to learn more about the Basque culture and the Basque Country, all while living with local families. They are also provided the opportunity to study the Basque language in a three-week immersion program at Maizpide Barnetegi. Thanks to the hard work of program organizers, the program is completely sponsored, so the only cost for participants is round-trip airfare, travel insurance and spending money. The 2025 program will take place from June 28-July 20, 2025. If you feel like this is something you would like to experience, don’t hesitate and apply today.
Participants will stay with host families in Goierri, Gipuzkoa and the program includes visits to other parts of the Basque Country and events outside Goierri. Thanks to the generosity of program sponsors, there is no fee to participate in Ateak Ireki 2025. Succesful applicants are only required to cover their roundtrip travel to the Basque Country as well as health insurance. There are limited slots available for this year's program depending on housing. Priority will be given to NABO members and to prior attendees of Udaleku and last year's participants will be eligible to apply as well. To apply, please visit the Ateak Ireki website. NABO's Ateak Ireki Coordinator, Monique Flesher is happy to answer any questions you may have. Please email Monique at Moniqueflesher@gmail.com. Don't miss out on this unique opportunity designed for Basque American youth!
