Conference on Nazi Germany and Occupied France
The Center for Basque Studies, with the support of the Hilliard Foundation, is hosting a conference this Friday and Saturday entitled, “Nazi Germany and Occupied France: Multi-Cultural Perspectives.” The conference, organized by Dr. Sandra Ott, gathers experts from around the world who will discuss various topics surrounding the German occupation of France, including Gurs a concentration camp located in the southwest, not far from Pau. On Thursday, Dr. Scott Soo, from the University of Southampton (UK) will present a Hilliard Endowment Lecture entitled, “Mass Internment: The Complexities of Commemorating France's 'Concentration' Camps.” This lecture will begin at noon in the Leonard Faculty/Graduate Room in the Knowledge Center room 422. Los Banos Mus
Don’t forget that the Los Banos Basque Club will host its annual Mus Tournament and Ladies Night Party on Saturday, March 7th at the Los Banos Fairgrounds. Mus registration will begin at 8am with games starting at 9pm. Cost of the tournament is $35 per player that includes lunch. After the tournament, stick round for the Ladies Night Party. Cocktails begin at 6pm followed by a BBQ Steak dinner. The evening will also include raffles and performances by the Basque language class and club dancers. Marin Sonoma Mus
The Marin Sonoma Basque Association will host its annual Mus Tournament this Sunday, March 8th at the St. Vincent’s School for Boys. Registration will begin at 7am and you must be a club member to participate. Cost of the tournament is $20 and new membership is $50 with $15 dues. Anyone who has already won a 2020 NABO Tournament will not be allowed to play, however they are welcome to come for lunch. Lunch will include soup, blood sausages, chorizo, mashed potatoes, tomato sauce, salad, cheese, gateaux Basque and coffee. Cost of the lunch is $20 for guests and $5.00 for children. Bertsolari Special Tribute RSVP Deadline Today
Deadline to RSVP for the North American Basque Organizations special Bertsolari Tribute is today March 5th. To RSVP, please email Kate Camino, or simply fill in the RSVP Form here. Tickets are $50 per person, and can be purchased through PayPal, or at the door. The event will include Bertsolari performances by our American based Bertsolaris, as well as two others from the Basque Country Sebastian Lizaso and Aitor Mendiluze. Renowned Bertsolari, Xabier Paya, will also provide simultaneous Basque-English translation. Mercedes Mendive will also provide entertainment during the aperitif and dinner.
