Los Banos Basque Festival

Los BanosThe Los Banos Basque Club is hosting its 55th Annual Basque Festival and Picnic tis Sunday, May 19, 2019 at the Los Banos Fairgrounds (4th and $ Streets).  Festivities will begin with Mass at 10am celebrated by Aita Antton Egiguren in O’Banion Hall. Lunch will be served from 12:30-2pm which will be followed by Basque dance performances, Klika, contests and public dancing.  Lunch tickets are $16 for members and $22 for guests. NABO Convention in Bakersfield

BakersfieldThis year’s NABO Convention will take place next weekend, Memorial Day Weekend, in conjunction with the Kern County Basque Club’s annual picnic and their 75th anniversary.  Weekend festivities will begin on Friday at 8am with the annual NABO convention meeting at the Woolgrowers Restaurant.  Saturday’s events will begin at 8am with a cash Mus Tournament.  Cost to play is $35 per player with 1st place receiving $500 and 2nd place receiving $250.  Please contact JB Bidegaray if you intend on participating.  The Jr. Mus Tournament will also take place on Saturday morning at 9am.  Please contact Gina Espinal, Jr. Mus Chair, for more details. NABO’s Txerriki contest will also take place on Saturday at 3pm. For more information on this event, please contact even coordinator Valerie Arrechea. The afternoon will also include, pilota with pilotaris from Euskadi, a musical performance by Mikel Markez, Julen Alonso and Andrea Bidart, the 2019 NABO Bizi Emankorra Awards, dance performances by visiting dance groups and the local KCBC Adult dancers and a public dance to the music of Luhartz.   Sunday will begin with Mass celebrated by Aita Antton Egiguren with the participation of the KCBC Klika and Choir.  The rest of the day will be filed with more music, dancing, pilota, good food again concluding with a public dance to the music of Amerikanuak and Luhartz.  For complete information, please click here.

 

Presentation on Translanguaging Strategies an CUNY

Translanguaging StrategiesThe Delegation of the Basque Country in the US invites everyone to a presentation on Thursday May 16th from 4:30-6:30pm by Jasone Cenoz, from the University of the Basque Country entitled, “Translanguaging Strategies in the Classroom: Bilingual and Multilingual Perspectives.” The event will be held at the Graduate Center at the City University of New York (CUNY) in Room 5318.  For more information, please visit their website.

 

Berri Txarrak "Ikusi Arte" Tour

Berri TxarrakWe would again like to remind Basque Rock Fans that Berri Txarrak’s “Ikusi Arte,” US Tour begins this weekend.  Berri Txarrak started in 1994 based out of Lekunberri (Nafarroa) and have been going strong ever since, producing nine albums and a documentary film.  Their sound can be described as a combination of punk, metal, fuzz with a bit of indie rock influence creating good, catchy melodies, with well-crafted smart lyrics.  They first played in the U.S. in 2005, in San Francisco, Reno and Boise as part of a NABO Cultural Tour event and have come back to perform in California and the greater United States on several occasions.


2019, is their last year and the following dates comprise the U.S. leg of their farewell tour, that the San Francisco Basque Cultural Center is proud to be sponsoring.  We strongly suggest reaching out to each venue to confirm, times and ticket availability. Please note that the Sacramento date has been changed to Orangevale.
