Film of the Month
This month's featured film from the NABO Filmategi is Obaba by Montxo Armendariz, adapted from the novel by Bernardo Atxaga, Obabakoak. This film was also the official 2006, Academy Awards Oscar candidate from Spain. More clubs are incorporating film as another activity in their communities, like the Basque Club of Utah who is hosting a film night on Thursday August 9th. If you'd like to attend the event, RSVP on Facebook.
Paul Laxalt (1922-2018)
As many of you may already be aware, Paul Laxalt, who served as both Governor of Nevada and as a United States Senator, passed away at the age of 96 on Monday. Besides his many other accomplishments, he was also a confidant to President Ronald Reagan, and worked closely with then Governor Reagan, to preserve Lake Tahoe. His grandson, Adam Paul Laxalt, is currently running for Governor of Nevada, and currently serves as Nevada's Attorney General. The New York Times ran a very nice article about Mr. Laxalt that we are sharing here. Goian Bego, and our condolences to all of his family and friends.
