Basque Pelota World Championship
The World Championship of Basque Pelota begins tomorrow in Zinacantepec, Mexico. The event that runs to September 21st, gathers 347 pelotaris from twenty different countries including a delegation from the US. Matches will take place at the "Palace of Pelota" that includes six courts of various lengths and two Trinketa, and accommodates 4,500 spectators. Organizers are expecting nearly 45,000 people over the ten days of play. The Boise State Basque Studies would like to remind everyone that the deadline to enter its Basque Literary Writing Contest is October 1st. The contest is open to any non-academic literary writing in English on any Basque related subject. The winners will receive a cash prize and a potential publication. CBS Lecture Series
The Center for Basque Studies at the University of Nevada, Reno is also happy to announce the schedule for this year's CBS Lecture Series. This year's event, organized by Iker Saitua, ABD, is an opportunity for Center graduate students, faculty and visiting scholars to share their latest projects and research.
