Colorado Euskal Etxea Summer Picnic
Our friends at the Colorado Euskal Etxea would like to invite everyone to attend their annual Summer Picnic to be held on August 10th at Lion's Park in Golden, CO. The event will run from noon until 4:30 and will include a lamb BBC lunch and performances by the Utah'ko Triskalariak. For more information please go to the club's website, or email Mayi Petracek. Here's wishing you a very successful event!
Trailing of the Sheep Festival
We also were contacted by the Trailing of the Sheep Festival organizers regarding their great idea for the next three years of this wonderful event. The idea is to recognize past, current, and future sheep ranching families who have "worked the land and are keepers of open space." For 2014, the focus will be on the first families who worked in this industry. The hope is to share their story with guests in an effort to preserve the memories of these folks. If you would like to share your family's story, or that of someone else as a "Lambassador," please contact organizers via their website where complete information on the event, as well as a wealth of information on related topics can be found. This is a premier cultural event that honors the arts, history and culture of the west that will take place this year on October 9-12, 2014 in Sun Valley, Ketchum and Hailey, Idaho.
Memoria Bizia Workshop in Reno
Speaking of preserving family stories and memories…Dr. Pedro Oiarzabal will be offering a workshop on the Memoria Bizia project and how to conduct interviews for it in Reno, NV on August 1, 2014 from 1-5 pm at the Center for Basque Studies in the Knowledge Center at the University of Nevada Reno. Teleconferencing will be available as well if you are not able to be there in person. Please RSVP by July 30th to email@example.com to hold your spot. Here is a great article on this project published in Euskal Kazeta.
Basque Tribune 1st Anniversary
Zorionak to the Basque Tribune on its first anniversary! The Tribune started in hopes of making the "Basque Country known in a different way." Theirs is not a daily edition but closer to what is called "slow journalism." Although they are very happy with the response they've received so far, they need a little economic boost in order for them to continue to improve. This is not just about just giving to support a great cause, but for every 10 euros donated, you will be entered into a drawing for a wonderful trip for two including flights and hotel for one week in the Basque city of your choice. If the winner is from the Basque Country, then the trip will be to New York. It's a win win! For more information on the Tribune, or to donate and enter the drawing click here. Zorionak eta sorte on!
