Los Banos 50th Anniversary
Just a reminder to join our friends in Los Banos this weekend to celebrate their 50th anniversary. The events begin early Saturday with a Mus tournament with cash prizes, followed by dinner and dancing, complete with a Kantu Afaria. Saturday's entertainment includes the lovely local group Noka, and returning friends from the Basque Country Luhartz. Sunday includes Mass, great food and more music and dancing. San Francisco Basque Cutlural Center Special Presentation
The San Francisco Basque Cultural Center is honored to have University of the Basque Country President, Iñaki Goirizelaia, with them on Friday May 16th to give a talk at 7:30pm. Dr. Goirizelaia will talk about offerings at the university as well as present a 20 minute version of the 1956 film Gure Sor Lekua that was originally produced for Basques in the Diaspora. The film thought to be the first done in Basque was thought to be lost, but was recently found by Josu Martinez, a doctoral student at the UPV/EHU who is researching the film as part of his thesis. Kern County Basque Club - NABO Convention
Kern County Basque Club is the place to be on Memorial Day Weekend. Not only is the club celebrating its 70th anniversary but it is also hosting this year's NABO convention. Festivities will begin on Friday May 23rd with the annual summer NABO meeting at 8am at the Wool Growers Restaurant. The meeting will be followed by a presentations, cocktails, a performance by Noka and Mikel Markez and the Accordion Festival. Saturday will include Mus, NABO Pilota Finals, Jr. Mus, Pilota with players from the Basque Country, and a dinner/dance. Sunday includes Mass, lunch, Klika and Basque dance performances. Diehards will also enjoy a Basque breakfast Monday morning at the Wool Growers.
