Euskararen Nazioarteko Eguna "International Day of Basque
Once a year there is day set aside for the celebration of Euskara--the Basque language. Officially Dec. 3rd it is rotated here depending on what community is hosting the event. The aim is to promote the expansion and use of the Basque language.
Message from NABO Euskara Coordinator:
"Euskararen eguna dela eta AEBetako euskara ikasleek hainbat ekjintza egingo dituzte. Leku batzuetan afaria euskaraz egin eta euskal kantak abestuko dituzte. Beste leku batzuetan euskeraz patata-tortilla egingo dute. Beste batzuetan herr desberdinetako. Ikasleak elkartu eta euskara klasea egingo dute eta gero afaria. Hemen daude Boiseko 3. Urteko euskara ikasleak aurten Ulibarriko euslkaltegiko ikasleekin euskaraz komunikatzen direnak Moodlen bitartez." Gero arte.

The date of Dec. 3rd is based on the feast of the Basque St. Francis Xabier (1506-52) who as a Christian missionary traveled to Asia, putting into practice what Bernard Etxepare, the author of the first book in Euskara (1545), declared: "Heuscara ialgui adi mundura" "Basque, go out into the world."
"All languages are used all hours and days of the years. That's certain, but what is also clear is that not all languages find themselves in the same circumstances: some have multitudes of speakers and others few; some are vigorous and growing while others are not. There are also some languages, that against the odds, have somehow endured across the millennia. That is why we celebrate every December 3rd the International Day of Euskara."
