Basque WWII Veterans Memorial Site Dedication

On Friday, August 7th, the National Basque WWII Veterans Memorial took a giant step forward dedicating the site where the physical monument will be built. Chair of NABO’s WWII Committee, Mayi Petracek, presided the dedication which also included the participation of NABO President Jean Flesher, and several members of the Gardnerville Town Council. Both Jean and Mayi provided background on the project, the Basque connection to Gardnerville, and the process used to elect Gardnerville as the site for the monument, while Town Council Members expressed their enthusiasm and gratitude for having been chosen. It should be noted that the land where the monument will be built, was generously donated by the Town of Gardnerville. Several members of the WWII Committee were also present on this momentous occasion, which served as a fitting kick-off for the Mendiko Euskaldun Cluba’s annual picnic. Establishing the locale for this national monument is a fundamental step in assuring the success of this project’s completion. For more information, or to make a tax-deductible donation, please click here. To read coverage on the dedication and the entire weekend, click here. On behalf of NABO, thank you to everyone who made this possible. Mila esker handi bat!
