BEO Grant Deadlines and Oppotunities

BEODon’t forget that the Basque Educational Organization has some great programs providing great opportunities to eligible applicants. The Women's Empowerment Fund and Creator's Fund grant applications are both closing May 31st so don’t miss out, and apply soon! Students are also reminded that the 2026 BEO Scholarship is still accepting applications — a wonderful opportunity to receive support from the Basque community. Please help the BEO spread the word with family, friends, and anyone who might benefit. Information on all three programs is available here.

 

Kern County Basque Festival

Bakersfield 2026Please join the Kern County Basque Club this weekend for its annual Basque Festival May 23-24, 2026. The festivities will kick off on Friday May 22nd with a screening of the film Karmele at 4:30pm at the California State University, Bakersfield Dore Theatre, sponsored by the CSUB institute for Basque Studies. Director Asier Altuna and Producer Marian Fernandez will be on hand for a Q&A after the film.

Saturday’s events begin at 8am with a cash Mus Tournament. Cost to participate is $40 per player, which includes lunch, with first place receiving $500, and Second place $250. If you would like to join them for lunch only, cost of the meal is $25 for adults and $20 for children. Local pilotaris will take to the courts beginning at 2pm and pilotaris from Euskadi will compete at 4:30pm.

Sunday will begin with mass at 10am celebrated by Aita Antton Egiguren and Deacon Fred Ansolabehere with the participation of the KCBC Klika and Choir. A BBQ lamb lunch will be served from 12:00-2:00pm – Adults $40, Honorary members, $35 and children 12 and under $25. After lunch there will be performance by the KCBC Dance groups and Klika. Stick around for Lukainka/Ham & Cheese sandwiches at 5pm and enjoy some more pilota with the pilotaris from Euskadi. Absolutely don’t miss out on Luhartz who will be providing music for a public dance starting at 7pm! The weekend concludes with Basque Breakfast at the Woolgrowers. Portland Club Veggie and Herb Share Event

PDX EventIf you are in the Portland area, the PDX Basque Club is hosting a Basque event on May 23rd  at Toast at 3pm. Some club members will be sharing vegetable and herb plants, including Basque peppers and tomatoes. If anyone else has starters to share, please bring them along.
