Korrika is a biennial race organized by AEK (Alfabetatze Euskalduntze Koordinakundea/Coordination for Literacy and Basque Language Promotion) to promote the Basque language and raise funds for adult education schools. They also strive to normalize the use of Basque in everyday life. Over 11 days, hundreds of thousands of participants pass a baton holding a secret message demonstrating their commitment to the language and celebrating Basque culture. Basques in the US don’t want to miss out, and so Basque instructors are also organizing Korrika events in their communities. Please join in the fun at 11:30am at the Evans Canyon Trailhead in Reno and bring along a dish to share for the potluck lunch following the event. For complete information, click here.
