Basque Cultural Center Invitational
This Saturday, September 27th, the Basque Cultural Center will host its annual Golf Invitational at Poplar Creek Golf Course. Cost to participate is $200 per golfer and includes range balls, green fees, golf cart, favors, prizes, and dinner at the Basque Cultural Center. For more information, click here.
Basque Film Makers Altuna and Esnal Honored
 Philippe  Acheritogaray, NABO Vice-President, and NABO’s Filmategi Chair shared the  following news with us. Basque film makers Asier Altuna and Telmo Esnal were honored  with the Zinemira Saria this  past September 23rd, 2025, at the San Sebastián International Film Festival in  recognition of their important contributions to Basque cinema. In 2005 they  made their feature film debut, jointly directing the landmark film Aupa  Etxebeste! whose 20th anniversary coincides this year with presentation of  the Zinemira Award. The film became a watershed moment for Basque-language  cinema, as its success brought visibility and legitimacy to productions made in  Euskera. Both directors have presented their films here in the U.S., with Asier  Altuna presenting his films Bertsolari (2012) and Amama (2016),  which was part of the 2016  Basque Film Tour. Telmo Esnal presented his avant-garde film Dantza (2019) during the 2019  Basque Film Tour.

Rare Pour Wine Dinner
  If you are in the Kansas City Area, there is a great food and  wine experience you won’t want to miss. This Sunday, September 28th  the “Rare Pour Wine Dinner” will take place at Affäre. This culinary experience will  include a muti-course dinner prepared by Chef Martin paired with wines from the  Basque Country, Chile, and Greece presented by three wine importers who are  experts in each region. Dr. Kerri Lesh, UNR graduate with a Ph.D. in Basque  Studies, is also a Certified Specialist of Wine (CSW). Dr. Lesh will share a  bit of her story, while educating diners on Basque region wines.
