Gooding Basque Picnic
The Gooding Basque Association will celebrate its 43rd Annual Picnic this Sunday, July 20th at the clubhouse. The festivities will begin with mass at 11:00am followed by Lunch at noon. The afternoon will include entertainment provided by the local Gooding Gazteak dancers, the Oinkari Basque Dancers, and the Utah’ko Triskalariak, and there will also be a Basque weightlifting exhibition. Gardnerville Picnic and Kantari Eguna
The Mendiko Euskaldun Cluba wants you to save the date for this year’s NABO Kantari Eguna in conjunction with its 44th Annual Basque Picnic on August 9th. Besides the Hamaika Buru Txistu Elkartea from Bilbao, and the local club dancers, the day will also include NABO’s Gateau Basque and Txerriki Contests. Reno 57th Annual Basque Picnic
The Zazpiak Bat Reno Basque Club will also celebrate this weekend with its 57th Annual Basque Picnic on Saturday, July 19th at the Mckinley Arts & Culture Center. The festivities begin at 10am with mass celebrated by Aita Antton, with the participation of the local dancers. The Txikis and Intermediate dancers will entertain right after mass, and there will be a weightlifting and woodchopping exhibition following. Lunch, served at 12:30pm, will include chorizo sandwiches, beans, salad, cheese, and wine for $15/plate. There will also be paella, prepared by Paella Sierra for $20/plate. These tickets will be limited so be sure to get yours early in the day. After lunch, there will be a Txinga carrying contest, and the adult dancers will also perform. There will be a lamb raffle, a whole butchered lamb, generously donated by the Borda Ranch. All proceeds from the lamb raffle go to support the club scholarships, and tickets will be available at the festival. The fun moves to the El Dorado for a public dance to the sounds of Amerikanuak at 8pm, and this year, there will be a Basque breakfast at Toro Bravo beginning at 8am. The breakfast menu will include tortilla de patata, chorizo, bacon, potatoes, cheese, fresh bread, and wine. Cost of breakfast is $30 with $4 from each meal donated to support the Reno Zazpiak Bat Basque Club. More information on their Facebook page.
Zortziak Bat Symposium
The Basque Studies Foundation, in collaboration with the Basque Educational Organization and Basque Studies at Boise State University are proud to present Zortziak Bat “Rowing Together” an international symposium on the Basque Diaspora and Cultural Expression, July 30-31st at Boise State University in the micron Business and Economics Building (MBEB). This two-day event is free and open to the public and will present attendees with information on various forms of Basque cultural expression in the Diaspora presented by scholars, creators, and cultural experts from around the world.
