Elite Pilotaris from Nafarroa to Play at Basque Cultural Center
The Basque Cultural Center will host elite pilotaris from the Nafarroako Euskal Pilota Federakuntza on Saturday May 31st at 6:00pm. The game is free and open to the public and will be followed by dinner. The menu includes Salmon Basquaise, Skirt Steak with Shallot Sauce, salad, cheese, and a lemon meringue tart for dessert. Being Basque in Boise with John Ysursa
Please join the Basque Museum and Cultural Center on May 29th at 6pm for a presentation by Dr. John Ysursa entitled “Being Basque in Boise – Then vs. Now.” The event is free and open to the public and more information is available by visiting them on Facebook.
Ziortza Olano Named Director for the Basque Community Abroad
The official appointment of Ziortza Olano Astigarraga as the Director for the Basque Community Abroad was published last Friday, May 16th, in the Official Bulletin of the Basque Country. Ziortza is from Mundaka, Bizkaia, and until now has worked as the coordinator of the Bilbao Innovation Factory as well as a team Coach at the Mondragon Team Academy. Her new position began in the Office for the Basque Community Abroad on Monday, May 19th. On behalf of everyone at NABO, we’d like to warmly welcome Ziortza, and we look forward to meeting her soon. Kern County Basque Club Annual Festival
Memorial Day Weekend is right around the corner, and so that means it is Kern County Basque Club’s annual festival time too. The festivities begin on Saturday May 24th and will include a cash Mus tournament, pilota players from Euskadi, dancing to the music of Luhartz, performances by the KCBC dance groups and Klika, and plenty of good food and drink. Sunday, Aita Antton will concelebrate mass with Monsignor Stephen Frost and Deacon Fred Ansolabehere at 10am, which will also be livestreamed on the Artzai Ona Facebook page.
