Wishing a Speedy Recovery to Aita Antton Egiguren
Please keep Aita Antton Egiguren in your prayers. Aita fell last Saturday and dislocated his shoulder and fractured his humerus bone. He is scheduled to meet an orthopedist and so we are hoping that all will go well, and he’ll be good as new in no time. In the meantime, we are sending him lots of prayers in hopes that he isn’t in too much pain, and that the recovery will go quickly. Zaindu aita!
Basque Breakfast at JT Basque Bar and Dining Room
If you are in the Minden/Gardnerville area this weekend, don’t miss out on the Basque Breakfast at the JT Basque Bar & Dining Room. The menu will include chorizo, ham, blood sausage, potato omelet or fried eggs, mashed potatoes, fruit, cheese, orange juice and wine and costs $19 + tax per person. This is first come first serve, so don’t sleep in!
Lagunak Celebrate International Women’s Day
Last Saturday, March 8th, coinciding with International Women’s Day, some 80 Basque women descended on to Louis’ Basque Corner for a wonderful afternoon of camaraderie, and great food. Sisters, Jackie Starkweather Uhalde, and Dr. Marjorie Uhalde, generously donated a painting done by their mother, Harriet Uhalde to raffle at the event. It was decided by the Lagunak committee to donate the proceeds to NABO’s Aita Tillous Fund that provides financial support to youth to participate in Udaleku, Ateak Ireki, or even Gaztemundu. Angela Kabisch Trueba, was the lucky winner, and NABO will receive the $370 raised. On behalf of everyone at NABO, Mila esker handi bat to the Uhalde sisters, as well as to everyone who participated in the raffle! Benetan, eskerrik asko!

Don’t forget that today, March 13th is the last day to register for the Mendiko Euskaldun Cluba NABO Qualifying Mus Tournament. If you haven’t registered yet, please email Teresa Fernandez with your information. Sorte on deneri!
Last weekend, March 8th and 9th, was full of NABO Qualifying Mus Tournaments at several NABO Member clubs. Starting on March 8th, the Euskal Lagunak Basque Club in Mountain Home, Idaho held its tournament and Jose Eguren and Sergio Gabicagogeascoa won, however Jose and Javier Arrieta will represent them at the NABO tournament in June. Also on March 8th, the Ventura County Itxaso Alde held its tournament with Gina and Mike Aguerre winning first place, and Maite Petrissans and Jose Luis Urrutia coming in second. On Sunday, the Elko Euzkaldunak held their tournament with Agustín Ugalde and Esteban Elexpuru coming in first, and Fulgencio Sarratea and Francisco Vargas placing second. Meanwhile, at the Southern California Basque Club Joe and Mark Jaureguy won and will be representing that club at the NABO finals in Los Banos on June 14th. Zorionak deneri!
