Basque Cultural Center 43rd Anniversary Celebration
Please join our friends at the Basque Cultural Center to celebrate its 43rd Annual Anniversary, February 15-16, 2025. The festivities will begin with a Basque Film Bizkarsoro at 1pm sponsored by the BEO. This will be followed by Pilota games featuring pilotaris from the Basque Country, an aperitif, and a BBQ Steak Dinner. Work off your dinner dancing to the tunes of Kontrabanda. Sunday’s events begin with Mass at 10am with the participation of the Zazpiak Bat Dancers, Elgarrekin Choir, and the Klika, followed by honoring a number of outstanding members for their contributions over the years. Afterwards, there will be an aperitif and a BBQ Lamb Lunch, followed by more pilota, and the day will round out with Moxkor Salda. Dinner/lunch reservations must be made by February 9th, so don’t miss out. Basque Dance Meeting and Practices in Winnemucca
If you live in the Winnemucca area, and have children who would like to Basque dance, there will be a mandatory parent meeting of the Euskaldunak Danak Bat Basque Dancers on Sunday, February 2nd at the weight room next to the indoor pool. The meeting will begin at 2:15pm and will be preceded by Advanced Dance practice 12:30-1:30pm and Intermediate Dance practice from 1:30-2:15pm. Beginners will practice after the parent meeting. If you have dance experience, and would be interested in teaching, they are also needing instructors for the intermediate and beginning levels. For more information, visit them on Facebook.
NABO Winter Meeting in Salt Lake City
This Saturday, February 1, 2025, the North American Basque Organizations board of directors will meet in Salt Lake City, Utah for its annual winter meeting hosted by the Basque Club of Utah, in conjunction with its annual Dinner/Dance Fundraiser. Delegates representing the forty one member clubs will meet in person, and on Zoom to discuss a wide range of topics including voting on NABO’s Lifetime Achievement, Al Erquiaga Bizi Emankorra award nominees, considering the applications for the new Euskara Coordinators, as well as welcoming a new secretary, Teresa Cox, who will be taking over for Kate Camino. There will also be participation from representatives of the Basque Government. After the meeting, delegates will then be treated to a wonderful meal, a performance by the Utah’ko Triskalariak, and dancing to the tunes of Mercedes Mendive at the Dinner/Dance event. As many NABO activities, the board’s three annual meetings move from club to club with the winter meeting alternating between the Basque Club of Utah, and the Basque Cultural Center in San Francisco. This year’s summer meeting will take place at Jaialdi, hosted by Euzkaldunak, and the Fall 2025 meeting will be in Reno, Nevada co-hosted by the Center for Basque Studies and the Zazpiak Bat Basque Club.
Los Banos Basque Club Lamb Stew Drive Thru
Need a break from making dinner? Let the Los Banos Basque Club do the cooking! The 4th Annual Lamb Stew Drive Thru Dinner will take place on February 4th at the D.E.S Hall from 4pm-7pm. The dinner for two includes lamb stew, salad, rolls, and cheese and costs $50. Tickets are available by calling the club’s board members. Please see their contact information on the flier. On egin!
San Francisco Basque Club Tripota Jatea and Mus Tournament
The San Francsico Basque Club will host its annual Tripota Jatea and NABO qualifying Mus Tournament this Sunday, February 2nd. Registration will begin at 7am and cost to participate is $40 per person which includes lunch. You must be a club member to play, and membership dues can be paid at the door.
