BEO's Impact of Women in Basque Communities
The Basque Educational Organization wants to remind everyone of an opportunity to become part of the second edition of its “Impact of Women in Basque Communities,” book. The first edition included over 100 women with beautiful heartfelt stories. If you missed out, you can now be included in the second edition and submit a story about your loved ones. “Every woman in our Basque communities should have a page in this book.” They are now offering a discount for inclusion in the second edition through the end of August. A portion of these proceeds will go into the Women’s Empowerment fund, which is one way the BEO supports women who shape our communities, further our culture and enhance our Basque identity. Diasporaren Eguna Event Slated to take Place in Oñati
As you all know, September 8th marks the Day of the Basque Diaspora. The day was created to bring visibility to our Basque communities around the world and share how each strives to maintain the Basque culture. The date, September 8th, was chosen because that is the date Juan Sebastian Elcano completed Ferdinand Magellan’s circumnavigation of the globe. This year’s institutional event in the Basque Country will take place in Oñati, Gipuzkoa on the 50th anniversary of the first Boise-Oñati Student Exchange program in 1974. The Lehendakari will attend along with several dignitaries from the Basque Government as well as local officials. The day will include speeches, recognitions, entertainment, as well as the presentation of a book on the first exchange program by Iñaki Galdos. More information on the event in Oñati will be forthcoming, but in the meantime, the Basque Government wants to know what your club or community is planning to celebrate the day. Please share your information with them by emailing euskaletxeak@euskadi.eus
