Ateak Ireki Ateak Ireki 2023

The Ateak Ireki Program, aimed at youth between the ages of 16-25 starts this Saturday, June 22nd and runs through July 14th. The program provides youth home stays in Goierri, Gipuzkoa visits around the Basque Country, as well as daily Basque lessons at Maizpide Barnetegia. Thirty-three participants are participating this year, in its second edition, from NABO member clubs hailing from Arizona, California, Idaho, Nevada, Utah and Washington State. Basque Club of Utah Picnic

SLC PicnicPlease join the Basque Club of Utah this weekend for its Annual Club Picnic. The festivities will take place at the Union Park in Midvale Utah and will begin at noon with mass. After mass, lunch will be served including either a steak or chorizo BBQ lunch complete with beans, salad, bread, and cheese. Paella will also be available. The afternoon will include a performance by the Utah’ko Triskalariak, a Horseshoe Tournament, Kids’ games and there will also be souvenirs for sale. BEO Scholarship

BEOThe Basque Educational Organization (BEO) is excited to announce that it is holding a scholarship competition open to all students currently enrolled in a US affiliated accredited college or university, including incoming freshmen. Chino Basque Club Scholarship Fundraiser Lunch

Chino Bsaque ClubThe Chino Basque Club will hold its annual Scholarship Fundraiser Lunch this Sunday, June 23rd at the clubhouse. Doors open at noon and the lunch menu includes appetizers (croquettas and more), Rib Eye Steak, Roasted Chicken, Veggies, Salad, Wine, Dessert, and Coffee. There is also a vegetarian option upon request. The cost of the meal is $50 for adults and $10 for kids. Since 2009, the club has awarded $170,000 to 25 college-bound students, and all donations are tax deductible. The afternoon will also include hearing from prior scholarship recipients, a 50/50 raffle as well as a raffle for Dodger tickets. For more information or to RSVP, click here.


NABO Mus Finals

As previously reported, the NABO Mus Finals took place last Saturday at the Carson Valley Inn hosted by the Mendiko Euskaldun Cluba, with 42 teams vying for the title. At the end of the day, Tony Espinal and Nick Vizcay took top honors representing the Los Banos Basque Club, and second place went to Eric and Michael Lahargou representing the Fresno Basque Club. Tony and Nick will now represent NABO at the International Mus Finals in Cusco Peru in October. On behalf of everyone at NABO we’d like to thank everyone that made this such a successful tournament. Mila esker to all the players for traveling to the tournament, the Mendko Euskaldun Club, as well as the NABO Mus Committee. Mila esker, anitz estimatzen zaituztegu!  See you all next year in Los Banos!

 

San Juan Eguna at Txoko Ona

SAn Juan EgunaThe Txoko Ona Basque Club in Homedale, Idaho will once again celebrate San Juan Eguna, this Saturday, Juen 22nd at the clubhouse. The event begins at 1pm with the Tony Larrocea 8 King Mus Tournament. At 5pm the gates will open and there will be dance and musical performances beginning at 6pm. Games for all ages will follow, and at sunset there will be a bonfire and a performance of San Juan Zortziko. For complete information, click here.
