Chino Basque Club Memorial Mass and Lunch
Our friends at the Chino Basque Club will host their annual Memorial Mass and lunch this Sunday, November 19th. Mass will be celebrated by Aita Antton Egiguren and will begin at 10am, followed by lunch at noon. Cost of lunch is $25 per adult and tickets are available to purchase through November 17th at 5pm PST here. Mass will also be livestreamed on the Artzai Ona Facebook Page.
Seattle Euskal Etxea Fall Film Night
As previously reported, the Seattle Euskal Etxea held a Fall Film Night. President Toni Sabarots let us know that it was a wonderful event enjoyed by all. This was the first in person event since the pandemic, which provided the opportunity to have a passionate discussion about Basque and Andalusian stereotypes portrayed in the film, Ocho apellidos vascos (Eight Basque Last Names). Many theories regarding the film’s popularity were also provided. Patty Jausoro, Hollywood producer and former club vice-president served as the moderator. Argentina's National Basque Week
Every year, Semana Nacional Vasca (National Basque Week) in Argentina is the largest Basque gathering in the Basque Diaspora. This year, hosted by the Necochea Euzko Etxea, the event took place November 6-12th and included a myriad of activities as always. On November 10th a symposium entitled “Compartiendo experiencias en la diaspora vasca,” (Sharing Experiences in the Basque Diaspora) was held and included the participation of Jean Flesher, NABO President along with his counterparts from the Federation of Basque Entities in Uruguay (FIVU) Juan Pedro Arin, and the president of the Federation of Basque Argentinian Entities (FEVA) Arantxa Anitua among others. The event was an opportunity for each to present their activities and share their triumphs and challenges in their respective communities. The symposium also included the participation of Gorka Alvarez, Director of the Basque Community Abroad, and Monika Madinabeitia and Kinku Zinkunegi both representing the Etxepare Basque Institute as well as Joseba Etxarri, Director of EuskalKultura.eus.
