Basque Club of Utah Halloween Party
Please join the Basque Club of Utah on October 21st for its annual Halloween Party. The festivities begin at 6:30pm at St. Vincent’s Benvegnu Center. Dinner is potluck and everyone is requested to bring an appetizer, salad, side dish, entrée or dessert for 6-8 people. The evening will be full of fun for all ages and will include a costume contest, and Basque Halloween Bingo among many other games. Come for the fun, and maybe you’ll even win a prize! Dr. Vaczi to Present Work on Basque Soccer Madness
This Friday, October 13th, Dr. Mariann Vaczi, Assistant Professor at the Center for Basque Studies at UNR will be giving a talk at the Basque Museum and Cultural Center entitled, “What is a Bertsolari for Zidane?" An Anthropologist Reports from San Mamés Stadium.” The event is free and open to the public and begins at 6pm. It will also be livestreamed on the Museum’s Facebook Live. Dr. Vaczi, who got her Ph.D. in Basque Studies and Anthropology at UNR, wrote her thesis on the subject and Athletic. She is also the author of Soccer, Culture and Society in Spain: An Ethnography of Basque Fandom (2015). For more information on her presentation, click here.
Iparreko Ibarra Basque Picnic
Please join the Iparreko Ibarra Basque Club in Rocklin, California this Saturday, October 14th, for its annual Basque picnic. The day’s festivities will start with a Mus Tournament. Registration begins at 8am with play beginning at 9am. This will be followed by a Tri-Tip Sandwich lunch and dance performances will begin at 2pm. At 4pm, there will be a weight-carrying competition, and a BBQ Lamb and Chicken Dinner will be served at 6pm. The evening will conclude with a public dance beginning at 8pm.
