San Inazio 2023
Please join the Boise Euzkaldunak this weekend for their annual San Inazio festivities, this year coinciding with the Udaleku 2023 final performance. The fun begins on Friday, July 28th with Pilota beginning at 4pm with men’s and women’s matches. At 5:45pm the Friends and Family Night event begins at the Basque Center with the Udaleku 2023 final performance beginning at 6pm outside on the Basque Block.
Saturday begins at 7am with the Basque Open at the Warm Springs Golf Course followed by traditional Basque dancing performances by the local dance groups beginning at 11am on the Basque Block, complete with lots of good food and drink. Pilota will continue Saturday afternoon at the fronton beginning at 2pm and the traditional San Inazio mass will be celebrated at 7pm at St. Mark’s Catholic Church. The day will conclude with a public dance again on the Basque Block to the music of Amerikanuak.
Sunday’s festivities begin at 11am at the Kristin Armstrong Municipal Park with the annual member’s picnic. Everyone is welcomed to join in, however, please note that there will be no food or drink available for purchase. If you attend, please plan to bring enough food and refreshments for your party. There will be various contests and kids games too beginning around 2pm. The events then move back to the Basque Block Sunday evening at 7pm for a women’s pilota exhibition at the fronton, and a performance by Txan Txan Gorriak, and Bertsolaris on the Basque Block. 2023 Basque Government Grants for Basque Clubs
The Basque Government through the Directorate for the Basque Communities Abroad has announced that the call for the 2023 Basque club grants will be published in the Official Bulletin of the Basque Country on July 31st. This year’s budget totals 947,420 Euros that will be divided into two categories. The majority of the budget, 767,420 Euros are aimed for Chapter IV grants for activities and operating expenses, while the remaining 180,000 Euros are reserved for Chapter VII grants for infrastructure expenses. All applications must be submitted through the BAK digital platform, and the deadline to do so is September 1, 2023. Udaleku 2023 Wraps Up This Friday
As we reported last week, Udaleku 2023 is in full swing this week in Boise. If the Facebook page is any indication, theses kiddos are having a great time. Besides learning more about their Basque culture, txistu, dance, language and pilota, they have also enjoyed cooking lessons with Jesus Alcelay, and music lessons with Txan Txan Gorriak, complete with learning how to play the Txalaparta, just for an idea. They have also enjoyed some leisure activities, like swimming, and bowling, as well as plenty of Mus when they get a chance.
