Anniversary of the Bombing of Gernika
Yesterday, April 26, 2023 marked the 86th anniversary of the Bombing of Gernika. Basque communities around the world mark the solemn occasion annually with a variety of activities, many of which are featured on the euskaletxeak website. The Gernika Peace Museum also inaugurated a new exhibition as part of its anniversary activities, including a temporary exhibit entitled “The Bombing of Basque Literature" More information about that tragic day is also available on the NABO website.
School for Equality Initiative
As part of the “School for Equality – Euskal Etxeak” initiative taking place throughout the month of May, the Basque Government’s Direction for the Basque Community Abroad invites interested persons to join the “Equality as a Quality Element in the Management of the Euskal Etxeak,” training sessions on May 6th and 13th. The Basque Government has prioritized working on equality for the last 30 years, having collected “different strategies and planning frameworks, where the objective is, among others, to disseminate a Basque Country brand in Equality. Said commitment aligns with Objective 5. Gender Equality of the UN 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda.” They are hoping that many will take advantage of these workshops in the Basque community abroad.The deadline to register is April 27th. Santa Rosa Basque Club Mus Tournament
The Santa Rosa Basque Club will host its annual Mus Tournament this Saturday, April 29th at the Paradise Valley Community Hall. Registration and breakfast begins at 8:30am with tournament play beginning at 9am. You must be a club member to participate and the tournament fee is $35 per person.
