Giving New Breath to Bertsolaritza in America
As previously reported, NABO has recently created a new program Bertsolaritzari Arnasa Berritu Amerikan – give new breath to Bertsolaritza in America. The initiative not only includes support for current bertsolaris and promoting this traditional art, but also support for upcoming bertsolaris, participating in the Bertso Eskola, taught by Todor Azurtza. On Euskararen Eguna, Day of the Basque Language, three of Todor’s students wanted to mark the occasion with a Bertso. They were led by Todor Azurtza in Boise, Idaho, followed by Nerea Eceiza Arregui in New York, Tony Huarte, in San Francisco, CA and Oier Pastor also in San Francisco. Gaztemundu 2022
This Sunday, 20 youth from all over the Basque Diaspora (Argentina (16); Chile (1); Colombia (1); USA (1); and Uruguay (1)) gathered in the Basque Country for Gaztemundu 2022. The program will run from December 4-20th striving to provide participants “a vision of the current Euskadi.” Over the two weeks, they will travel all over the country visiting historic and significant places, while participating in training activities. Based in Vitoria-Gasteiz, the group has already visited Arantzazu, Gomiztegi Kooperatiba, Oñati, Bergara, and Hondarribia, as well as in Iparalde Sara, Ainhoa, and Donibane-Lohitzune. Eguberri Besta in San Francisco
The San Francisco Basque Cultural Center’s Women’s Club will host its annual Eguberri Besta this Sunday, December 11th. The festivities will begin at 10:30am with mass with the participation of the Elgarrekin Choir, followed by lunch at 12:30pm. Santa will also pay a visit after lunch.
