Fall NABO Meeting

Toxko OnaThe North American Basque Organizations' Fall Meeting will take place this Saturday, November 5th in Homedale, Idaho co-hosted by the Txoko Ona and Ontario, Oregon Basque Clubs.  The morning will begin with a meet and greet at 9:30am (MT) with the meeting called to order at 10:00am.  Delegates will be attending in person, as well as via Zoom.  Highlights on the agenda include a report by Jon Bilbao Basque Library Head Librarian, Iñaki Arrieta, giving us an update the latest activity there, as well as an update on the Memoria Bizia – Fighting Basques Project, by Dr. Pedro Oiarzabal.  The fall meeting also marks the time when the NABO Euskara Coordinator and Facilitator are appointed.  After the meeting, delegates will return to Boise to attend Euzkaldunak’s Mortzilla Dinner where President Philippe Acheritogaray will present the Bizi Emankorra, NABO’s lifetime achievement award, to Miren Artiach, NABO founding member, thanking her for her years of service to the organization.  We will provide more information about this meeting in next week’s edition.

 

Bernardo Atxaga Chair Events at CUNY

Bernardo Atxaga ChairThe Delegation of Euskadi in the US has announced that several events have been organized as part of this year’s edition of the Bernardo Atxaga Chair on Basque Language and Culture at CUNY, organized by the Etxepare Basque Institute and the university.  This year’s Chair, Dr. Jone Miren Hernandez, is teaching the course “Opacities, Absences and Silences in Bertsolaritza. Feminist (Re)interpretations of an Extraordinary Cultural Practice” October 31-November 4th. The class will conclude with an open talk by Dr. Hernandez, entitled “Who Killed Euskara?  Notes for the Script of a Series of Feminist Intrigue.”  The talk will take place at 6:00pm in Room C203, as well as on Zoom. The Delegation also invites everyone to join them at a reception in honor of Basque runners participating in the 2022 New York Marathon, along with their families and companions.   The event will take place at 9:30am on Saturday November 5th at 9:30am at the Delegation (820 2nd Ave, Suite 13B, New York, NY 10017), where the runners will also receive a commemorative t-shirt. Txoko Ona Fall Dinner

Fall DinnerOur friends at the Txoko Ona Basque Club are keeping busy!  They will host their annual Fall Dinner on November 12th, from 5:00pm-9:00pm (MST) at the clubhouse.  The festivities will begin at 5pm for cocktails with dinner served at 6:30pm.  Price of the meal is $20 for adults and $10 for children between the ages of 6-12.  This is a family-friendly event and is open to the public.  Online ticket sales close on Monday, November 7th at 5:00pm.  Limited tickets may be available at the door for an additional fee, so prepaying is highly encouraged to guarantee your seat.  For complete information, including the menu and to purchase a ticket, click here.

 

Reno Zazpiak Bat San Martin Dinner

Reno Basque ClubPlease join Reno’s Zazpiak Bat Basque Club for its annual San Martin Dinner, Saturday, November 12th from 5:00-pm-10:00pm at the Reno American Legion Hall.  Cost of the meal is $30 per person and includes Solomo (pork loin), lamb stew, beans, salad, bread, cheese, and wine.
