Sunday Mass Will Remember Gooding and Reno Communities
This weekend, Aita Antton will be celebrating mass on Sunday, July 17th at 9:45am (PST) from St. Patrick’s parish. Please join him in remembering the Basque communities of Gooding, Idaho and Reno, Nevada during the live stream available on the Artzai Ona Facebook page, with a special remembrance of those who have passed away this last year. Running of the Bars in Boise
Join the folks at the Basque Museum and Cultural Center in Boise for a “Running of the Bars,” in honor of San Fermines, on July 16th from 5pm-10pm on the Basque Block. The event will include a pub crawl in downtown Boise that will include bars like the Basque Center, Leku Ona, Grainey’s, Cactus, Whiskey Bar, and Silly Birch. If you sign up by July 15th there are extra incentives available including a free drink ticket and chorizo. Gooding Basque Association will hold its 40th annual Basque Picnic
The Gooding Basque Association will hold its 40th annual Basque Picnic, this Sunday, July 17th at the Gooding Basque Center (corner of highway 46 and 26). The festivities will begin at 11am with mass followed by lunch at noon. Cost of the meal is $22 for adults, $19 for Seniors 62 an older, and $10 for children. The afternoon will be full of Basque dancing, weight lifting, and many contests for both young and old. There will also be an auction for a lamb and other items. Jaialdi: Book Presentation and Signing by Nancy Zubiri
The University of Nevada Press is proud to present Jaialdi: A Celebration of Basque Culture by Nancy Zubiri and Jon C. Hodgson with an author’s discussion and book signing this Sunday, July 17th at 2pm at Sundance Books and Music in Reno. The book, through interviews and photographs, attempts to transmit the looks and feel of Jaialdi, the largest Basque festival in the United States, held in Boise every five years. Reno Basque Festival
Reno’s Zazpiak Bat Basque Club will host its 54th annual Basque festival this Saturday, July 16th at the California Building. The day’s events will begin with a cash Mus tournament at 8am, followed by lunch, dance performances by the local Zazpiak Bat Dancers, and kids’ games. Join them Saturday evening at 401 East 4th Street (between Black Rabbit Mead and Nevada Sunset Winery) for a public dance to the music of Amerikanuak beginning at 8pm. Live Portrait Painting Exhibition with Zoe Bray Today
Please join Zoe Bray today, July 14th for a live portrait painting exhibition at the Lilley Museum of Art on the University of Nevada, Reno campus. This event is the culmination of three days of Museum Director, Vivial Zavataro, posing for Zoe providing a glimpse into Zoe’s artistic process.
