BEO Special Film Event

BEOThe Basque Educational Organization is hosting a special movie event on Saturday February 19th, as part of the Cultural Center’s 40th anniversary festivities, the BEO will be showing three short films in the meeting room beginning at 3pm.  The films are “Basker,” a 1963 film on Basque culture by Swedish filmmakers, and the other two are contemporary short films “Topeka,” and “Ama.” The event is free and open to the public.  For complete information, please visit their website.

 

New Spotify Playlist Just In Time For Valentine's Day

MaitemindutaNABO’s Music Programs Director, Mikaela Goicoechea, took a little time out during her stay in the Basque Country to create a new Spotify playlist in celebration of Valentine’s Day.  This playlist “Maiteminduta,” is “full of Basque love songs from artists across multiple decades and genres.” Mila esker handi bat Mikaela! Services for Dominica (Monique) Elgart Berterretche

Dominica Elgart BerterretcheThe rosary for Dominica (Monique) Elgart Berterretche, who passed away on February 1st, will take place on Sunday March 13th at 5pm at the Funeria Del Angel Mortuary in Chino. Her funeral mass will be on Monday March 14th at 10am at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church also in Chino. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to either Shriner’s Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles, or to the Chino Basque Club Scholarship fund. San Francisco Basque Cultural Center 40th Anniversary Celebration

40th AnniversaryPlease join the San Francisco Basque Cultural Center at its 40th Anniversary, February 19th-20th, for a wide array of activities, and fun for all. Saturday will begin with NABO’s winter business meeting, followed by a film screening hosted by the BEO, followed by Joko Garbi and Eskuz Pilota in the cancha.  An aperitif including entertainment provided by Amerikanuak  will begin at 6pm, followed by a New York Steak Dinner at 7pm.  A public dance is next at 9pm with music also provided by Amerikanuak. Sunday’s festivities will begin at 10am with mass celebrated by Aita Egiguren, Fr. Renee Iturbe and Fr. Mike Lastiri with the participation of the Zazpiak Bat Basque Dancers, Gazteak Taldea, Elgarrekin Basque Choir, and the San Francisco Klika.  After mass, the BCC will present its 2022 Bizi Emankorra awards to Esther Bidaurreta, Christine Elicagaray, Tony Espinal, Jean Pierre Cabalette and Pierre Labat. Zorionak deneri! After the awards ceremony, there will be an Aperitif and a BBQ rack of lamb lunch at 1pm.  More Joko Garbi is in store for the afternoon and as tradition dictates, the event will conclude with Moxkor Salda Sunday evening.  Meal reservations need to be made and prepaid by February 12th by emailing rsvp@sfbcc.us.
