Jon Bilbao Fellow Eneko Bidegain
This year’s Jon Bilbao Fellow from the Etxepare Basque Institute was Eneko Bidegain. Many of you may have met Eneko during his recent stay at the Center for Basque Studies where he was conducting research on the connection between Diaspora Basques and the homeland at the Jon Bilbao Basque Library. Now back home, Eneko talks about his stay and the research he conducted in this article. Having discovered an abundance of material in the library as well as in his travels to several Basque communities, Eneko does not rule out returning to the US to continue his research.
Txipli, Txapla, Pum Amerikatik Project
The 21st Century Basque Collective has reached out to us in hopes of contacting potential collaborators for their Txipli, Txapla Pum Amerikatik project in the US in July and August of 2022. They are hoping to work with Basque clubs and Basque communities who would become part of their photograph series. The project is endorsed and financed by the Provincial Government of Bizkaia, in the same way as a similar project that took place in London in 2010. The aim of the project is to “make a contemporary reading of Basque traditions and how they have been preserved by the Basque diaspora,” in other words, studying how Basque traditions are maintained around the world by Basques who are also fully assimilated into their host countries. If your club or community would like to be part of the project, please email Endika Basaguren.
