Basque Government Grant Deadline

Eusko JaurlaritzaJust a reminder that the deadline to apply for a 2021 Basque Government Grant is Friday, September 17th.  Also, remember that this year the Basque Government has begun a totally online process that includes an electronic signature, or BAK. If your club has not yet applied for a BAK, you won’t have time to apply for a grant in 2021 unfortunately.  However, you can apply for a BAK now, to be prepared for next year’s grant cycle.  For complete grant information in Basque and Spanish, click here.

Day of the Basque Diaspora: Summary of 2021 Events

As reported last week, September 8th marked the Day of the Basque Diaspora.  Basque clubs and communities from all over the world celebrated the day with a myriad of events, talks, dance performances, Zoom gatherings, and in person gatherings, to share the Basque culture with their neighbors and friends and to let the world know about the important contribution Basques have made in their new homelands.  The Basque Government also joined in the festivities holding an institutional event that included the inauguration of the “Basques in California” exhibit prepared by the Basque Museum and Cultural Center.  This event was livestreamed and a video of it is available here. In the United States, we were made aware of some events organized by the Basque Club of Utah, Boise Euzkaldunak, the Basque Museum and Cultural Center, the New England Basque Club, Basque Studies at Boise State University, as well as at the Center for Basque Studies at the University Of Nevada, Reno. If you were unable to attend any of these, please enjoy this photo gallery below to see how our friends celebrated this day.  Maybe it will give you some ideas for how to celebrate next year. If you’d like to see how others around the world celebrated, please click on the program compiled by the Basque Government, here. On egin!
