Basque Soccer Friendly Postponement & T-Shirt Offer

Kuadrilla T-ShirtThis week we have received messages from both Basque Soccer Friendly, and the organizers of Jaialdi regarding the postponement of both events. In a note from Basque Soccer Friendly, who has worked hard to bring Athletic Bilbao Soccer team to Boise for a match the weekend before Jaialdi, they say, “increasing Covid-19 infection rates and slow vaccine rollouts both here and all around the world mean that we must postpone the Basque Soccer Friendly once again.” The note concluded with the hopes of trying again in July of 2022. In the meantime, the organization had printed one of a kind “Kuadrilla 2020” t-shirts for the original 2020 date for the soccer match.  They have now lowered their price to $20 with all proceeds going to St. Luke’s COVID-19 relief effort.  If you would like to purchase one of these t-shirts, click here.  The note concluded with a reminder to tune in to watch Athletic vs. Barcelona in Spain’s Supercopa, which Athletic won 3-2 in extra periods.  The last time Athletic won this competition was in 2015, after having traveled to Boise for Jaialdi 2015 and the first ever Basque Soccer Friendly match.  Afterwards, they team dedicated the win to its fans around the world and especially to those in Idaho.

Jaialdi Rescheduled for 2022

Jaialdi 2022 Organizers from Jaialdi also communicated their decision to postpone the event until July 26-31, 2022.  Jaialdi, one of the largest Basque festivals in the world, is held every five years in Boise, Idaho.  For more information on tickets, refunds etc. visit their website. Udaleku Postponed to 2022

UdalekuAs everyone is aware, Udaleku 2020 was canceled, originally scheduled for June 21-July 3 2020, and to be hosted by the Basque Club of Utah. The hope then was for the Kern County Basque Club to host camp in 2021 instead, but now, unfortunately, it has become apparent that this is no longer a possibility.  Again, with COVID numbers rising, and California especially suffering from the pandemic, as well as the reality that vaccinations are not going to be distributed to youth for some time, the Kern County Board of Directors, in collaboration with NABO’s Udaleku Co-Chairs, has come to this difficult decision to try again in 2022.

On behalf of NABO, we would also like to extend our sincerest condolences to the Kern County Basque Club, and the family  and friends of Dominique Bordagary, member of its Board of Directors, who passed away due to complications of COVID-19.  Goian Bego.
