Sunday's Mass to Remember Txoko Ona and Utah Basque Clubs
Aita Antton will be remembering the Basque communities of Homedale, Idaho and Salt Lake City Utah at this Sunday’s virtual mass. Mass will be for the intentions of these Basque communities, with a special remembrance of their dearly departed. As always, mass will be livestreamed beginning at 8am (PST) from the Artzai Ona Facebook Page. You can find the missal here.
Atipikoa Youth Program
Toni Sabarots wrote us letting us know about a new option for our youth between the ages of 15-20 years of age. The program is called Atipikoa and will take place August 1-10, 2021 on Lopez Island outside of Seattle. The experience will include “learning about Basque music, cooking, language, Mus, and modern Basque art, including film, while kayaking, hiking, and exploring the Puget Sound and Salish Sea.” For complete information visit their website, or email Toni with any questions.
Basque Club of Utah Events
This weekend, the Basque Club of Utah will be very busy! On Saturday, they will participate in the 2021 Living Traditions Festival at Washington Square from noon to 9pm, where they will share our Basque culture with their local neighbors. Here is a great video they created for this event. On Sunday, they will host their annual picnic at the Union Park Pavilion. The day will begin with mass at noon, followed by a performance by the Utah’ko Triskalariak. Lunch will include three options, steak lunch, chorizo lunch, or chorizo sandwiches; however, drinks will not be available for purchase. The afternoon will also include a horseshoe tournament, kids’ games, and souvenirs for sale. For complete information including meal prices, see their flier. Biba ziek! Segi hola hola!
Felix Berrueta (1934-2021)
We were saddened to hear of the death of Felix Berrueta. Felix is the father of Xabier Berrueta, current President of the US Federation of Pelota and former NABO delegate. On behalf of everyone at NABO, we extend our most sincere condolences to his widow, Victoria and sons, Aitor and Xabier, as well as to his extended family and many friends. Goian Bego.
Txoko Ona Open House
This year, in lieu of a club picnic the Txoko Ona Basque Club in Homedale, Idaho will host an open house on Sunday June 27th from 1-5pm instead. Everyone is encouraged to come by and tour the clubhouse to see the new patio addition that was completed during the pandemic. Refreshments will be served. Zorionak deneri!
