Basque Club of Utah Dinner Fundraiser
The Basque Club of Utah will hold a Drive-Thru Fundraiser on May 1st, from 3:00-5:00pm, aimed to be a safe alternative to the club’s annual Dinner/Dance. Help support the club and enjoy a delicious meal that includes salad, leek soup, Basque chicken, lamb shank, potatoes, eclairs for dessert and bread. Cost of the meal is $25 per person, and reservations must be made by April 25th. The event will take place at the St. Vincent parking lot (1375 E. Spring Ln. Holladay, UT 84117), and instructions on how to do pick up meals will be provided closer to the event. To make a reservation, or to donate to the club click here. Basque Government Grant for Those in Extreme Need
Next Friday, April 16, is the deadline for submitting applications for the Basque Government’s 2021 grants for those in extreme need. The call for applications is available in the BOPV of Tuesday, March 16. The deadline for submitting applications is Friday, April 16, 2021, which means that applications must arrive at the Office for the Basque Community Abroad on or before that date, or be registered at the Basque Country Delegations Abroad or at the Official Spanish Postal Service, also on or before that deadline. Picasso Presents Gernika – a YouTube Premiere
UC Riverside is proud to present Picasso Presents Gernika – a YouTube Premiere on Saturday, April 24th at 7pm (PST). Picasso Presents Gernika was written by Begoña Echeverria and is a “historical docudrama about the child refugee crisis” caused by Hitler’s 1937 bombing of Gernika and Picassos’s subsequent depiction of the event. The work includes primary source material and documentation with imaginative fiction, and draws from a 2019 reading of the play staged at the Chino Community Theatre directed by Paul Larson and produced by the UCR Theatre, Film and Digital Production students. Basque Cooking Class at Truckee Meadows Community College
Truckee Meadows Community College is proud to announce that Edurne Arostegui, ABD Ph.D. Candidate at the Center for Basque Studies will be teaching a Basque Country Cooking course April 19-20th from 5:30-8:30 pm (PST) at the Nothing To it! Culinary Center, in Reno. This class will focus on pintxos including gildas, tortilla, txorizo in cider, bonito tacos, txampis, and more classics. Learn about Basque culture, take home additional recipes, and be prepared to enjoy some pintxos along with wine and cider. Cost of the class is $114 per person, which includes $35 for ingredients.
