Christmas Message from Aita Antton Egiguren
For those who may not have already received Aita Antton’s Christmas message, we have included it here for you. If you are unable to attend mass in person on Christmas Day, Aita Antton will be celebrating mass in Basque and English beginning at 8:30am (PST) that can be followed live on the Artzai Ona's Facebook page, or later on by clicking on the video link on the same page. The missal for Christmas mass can be found here. Again we would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to Aita Antton for his efforts to keep the Basque community united during the time of the pandemic, and hope he understands how much he is appreciated. Cenarrusa Foundation Awards Anita Anacabe Franzoia and Former Lehendakari Ibarretxe
As we previously reported, the Cenarrusa Foundation for Basque Studies created a new award this year to recognize individuals or institutions that “exemplify Pete Cenarrusa’s numerous contributions to public service.” Nominations for this year’s award ran from October 1st through November 15th with the results being announced on December 16th, Pete’s birthday. The first awardees to receive the award are Anita Anacabe Franzoia from Elko, Nevada, and former Lehendakari, Juan Jose Ibarretxe who resides in the Basque Country. As Roy Eiguren, member of the Cenarrusa Foundation Board of Directors told the Elko Daily “Each of the honorees has established themselves with integrity in invaluable and relentless protections and promotion of the Basque language, cultural expression, identity, and civil and human rights. Their tenacious volunteerism and public service careers have been served with humility, honesty, and ethics. They exemplify Pete Cenarrusa’s values and commitment to good governance, public service for the greater good of all, and a dedication to Basque global networks.” On behalf of everyone at NABO we would like to congratulate both Anita and Lehendakari Ibarretxe on being the first recipients of this award. Lehendakari Urkullu's Christmas Message
As every year, Lehendakari Urkullu has shared his Christmas message with us, again emphasizing his and the Basque Government’s commitment to Basques wherever they may be, something that is made even more meaningful this year with so many suffering from the pandemic. Boise Sheepherder's Ball 2020 Video
As many may have been aware, the annual “Sheepherder’s Ball” in Boise should have taken place last weekend. Organizers of the charity event, the Oinkari Basque Dancers, didn’t want this year’s date to go unnoticed, and so put together this video for all to enjoy. Zorionak deneri, lan bikaina!
