Etxepare Basque Institute Celebrates Ten Years

EtxepareWe would like to congratulate the Etxepare Basque Institute on its 10th Anniversary.  The institute has devoted much of these ten years to the promotion of the Basque language and culture, especially through its networks of lectureships at universities all around the world, in at least 18 countries.  Now, with Euskara Munduan under its umbrella, they are also responsible for training Basque teachers at the Basque club level, complete with internationally recognized certification exams provided in collaboration with HABE.  Other Institute initiatives include the creation of Chairs at several universities, around the world that provide graduate level instruction.  These Chairs, often named for great figures in Basque culture, provide unique opportunities for students to gain insight and instruction from top-level academics, musicians, writers, filmmakers, artists, etc. The Institute, in support of Basque creation, also works hard to promote Basque creators around the world through international book fairs, exhibits, conferences, and performances.  In some instances providing grant monies for Basque artists/groups to tour allowing audiences around the world the opportunity to enjoy their crafts.  We at N.A.B.O. have been very fortunate to have had close relationship with folks at the Institute since its inception, and so, on behalf of everyone here, would like to congratulate them on these 10 years and wish them continued success for many, many more to come! Zorionak deneri! Lan bikaina!

Euskararen Eguna: International Day of the Basque Language

As many of you already know, last Thursday, December 3rd was the International Day of Euskera.  To commemorate the date many Basque clubs, and Basque Lectureships, sponsored by the Etxepare Basque Institute, organized events, many including Basque students, or conversation practice opportunities.  To get an idea of events at clubs around the world, see this article on EuskalKultura.eus.  Inspired by Euskararen Eguna, Todor Azurtza, Basque instructor in Boise, created the following Bertso that he has also kindly translated.  If your club or organization held an event for Euskera Day, let us know so that we can share how you celebrated.  Zorionak Todor, eta mila esker zure ahalegin guziendako!
