Gaztemundu 2020 Cancelled
We have received official notice that Gaztemundu 2020 has been cancelled due to COVID-19. Folks were holding out hope that by some miracle, this program could take place but unfortunately, that is not the case. Gaztemundu, organized by the Basque Government’s Directorate of Basque Communities Abroad is an annual program, gathering youth from Basque clubs around the world in Euskadi for two weeks focusing on any number of topics. This year’s theme was Basque Gastronomy and would have been held at the Gastronomy School in Gasteiz. NABO Spotify Profile
NABO is excited to announce the launch of its own Spotify Profile. Mikaela Goicoechea, NABO’s Musical Culture Chair, has compiled several playlists that are now available on Spotify. These include a NABO Songbook Playlist, a kid’s Basque music playlist, and another with Basque social dances. San Francisco Diasporaren Eguna 2020
Last Saturday, the San Francisco Basque Cultural Center held a Drive-Through Dinner Fundraiser. The hope was to be able to sell at least 100 meals to help alleviate some of the economic hit the Center suffered after having to cancel its annual Jaialdia due to the pandemic. Much to their surprise and delight, they actually sold more than 500 meals, and everything ran smoothly. Here is a wonderful video created with the collaboration of Valerie Arrechea, Peter Fawzi, Jean Paul Barthe, and Jack Uhalde showing how the day went.
