San Francisco Fronton Gets a Facelift
Folks at the San Francisco Basque Cultural Center haven’t been idle during this time of sheltering in place, just the opposite, they have used their time to give the fronton a facelift. Jon Rahm Expressed His Gratitude in Basque at PGA Tournament
If you are a golf fan or not, it would have been hard to miss the deluge on social media last Sunday of Jon Rahm thanking his father and mother in Basque. Rahm, who was born in Barrika, Bizkaia is currently ranked as the number one golfer in the world after his win at the PGA Memorial Tournament. It was exciting for sure with his 8 shot lead shrinking to three, but he succeeded. During the post-tournament interview, he said he was playing for his mother and grandmother who recently passed away, as well as his entire family and then turned to the camera to say “Aita eta ama eskerrik asko, eskerrik asko guztiagatik benetan,” and this moment quickly went viral on social media. Rahm graduated from Arizona State University and enjoyed several wins at the collegiate level. He was also the number one golfer in the World Amateur Golf Ranking for a record 60 weeks, and was the low amateur at the 2016 U.S. Open, after which he turned professional.
