Jaialdi 2020
The organizers of Jaialdi 2020 have extended an invitation to dance groups, klikas, musicians, singers, and sportsmen from all NABO clubs to participate in this summer’s event, July 28-August 2, 2020. This mega Basque festival that takes place every five years has become a Mecca for US Basques and Diaspora Basques alike. If you have any intention of attending, it is highly recommended that you make your hotel reservations now. San Martin in Reno
Reno’s Zazpiak Bat Basque Club will host its annual San Martin Dinner Dance on Saturday November 16th from 4:30pm-10pm. The menu consists of steak, rice, vegetables, salad, bread cheese, wine and dessert. Cost of the meal is $20 for adults and $10 for children, 12 and under, with an RSVP, or $25 and $12 without an RSVP. RSVPs are requested by November 10th. Elvira Cenoz (1931-2019) Goian Bego
We were saddened to learn that Elvira Cenoz (née Díaz de Mendibil Osa) longtime Gardnerville resident and owner of the Overland Hotel Basque Restaurant, has passed away. Elvira was originally from the Saturraran neighborhood of Mutriku, Gipuzkoa. She settled in Gardnerville in 1980 where she worked side by side with her husband, Eusebio, at the Overland. She had become an institution, and members of the local Mendiko Euskaldun Cluba have many fond memories of time spent with her. Funeral services will be this Saturday, November 9th beginning with a rosary at 10:30am at St. Gall’s Catholic Church. Interment will follow at the Gardnerville Cemetery.
