Basque Diaspora Day 2019

Diasporaren EgunaThis Sunday, September 8th, marks the second annual “Basque Diaspora Day.”  This day was established by the Basque Government in hopes of giving the Basque communities abroad more visibility.  September 8th was chosen since it is the date that Juan Sebastian Elkano successfully circumnavigated the globe in 1522. Many Basque clubs and entities are planning special events on this day, and the Basque Government will hold an official event in Ispaster, Bizkaia.  Ispaster was chosen as the  site this year since it represents the entire Diaspora with Ispastertarrak living in 11 different countries. As a testament to this, two houses on the town’s main plaza are named Nevada and Oregon.  Everyone is invited to join in the festivities, and if your community is planning an event, please send information about it to euskaletxeak@euskadi.eus so that it can be included in the world program.
