Pilota Matches in Chino
The Chino Basque Club invites everyone to join them on July 6th for special pilota matches at the Aphessetche Trinquet (7262 Bickmore Ave. Chino 91708) featuring local players vs. players from France. The first game between Miguel Garces & Ayviht Romero vs. Arturo Garcia & Denis Petrissans begins at 3:30pm, followed by a second match between Alberto Reyes and Iban Saldumbide vs. Mike Aphessetche & Dominique Camou. 56th Annual Basque Festival in Elko
The Elko Euzkaldunak Basque Club will celebrate its 56th National Basque Festival July 5-7, 2019. Festivities will begin on Friday, July 5th with a Kickoff on Ormaza Way beginning at 6pm. The evening will include dance performances by the Elko Ariñak Dancers, herri kirolak (rural sports), and fireworks. Saturday will begin with a 5K Run/Walk beginning at the clubhouse at 7am, followed by the annual 4th of July parade through downtown Elko beginning at 11am. After the parade, beginning at 1pm, join them at the Basque clubhouse again for more Basque dancing, herri kirolak, tug-o-war and more. Pilota games begin at 6pm at the fronton in Elko City Park. Saturday night, there will be a public dance beginning at 9pm at the clubhouse. Sunday’s festivities will begin with mass at 11am celebrated by Aita Antton Egiguren, again at the clubhouse, followed by a Sheepherder’s Bread Contest, and more good Basque food, drink, Basque dance, sports and more contests that everyone can join in on. Southern California Basque Club's 73rd Annual Picnic
The Southern California Basque Club will host its 73rd annual Basque Club Picnic on July 7, 2019. Festivities will begin at 10:30am with mass celebrated by Fr. Javier Altuna followed by a BBQ steak lunch. Afternoon entertainment will include Basque dance performances at 3pm followed by a BBQ Lamb dinner at 6pm. Lunch and dinner tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for children. After dinner, there will be a public dance to the music of Jean Flesher beginning at 7:30pm until midnight. Enara Project Survey of the Basque Diaspora
In an effort to get to know the Basque Diaspora better, and in light of the upcoming 7th World Congress of Basque Collectivities this fall, the Basque Government, specifically the Department of the Basque Community Abroad invites everyone to participate in the Enara Project Survey. The hope is to get a better idea of the “characteristics, opinions and interests of Basque people living abroad.” Everyone that participates will be entered into a raffle for a trip for two to the Basque Country to attend the World Congress, or to Boise, Idaho to attend Jaialdi 2020.
