Basque Picnic in New York
The New York Basque Club invites everyone to join them this Sunday, September 30th on Governor's Island for a picnic, to bike or just spend the day together. They are asking that everyone meet at 12:30pm with their food at Picnic Point where there are fountains and restrooms available. International Mus Tournament
As many of you may know, our NABO Mus Champions, Tiburcio Sarratea and Frank Vargas representing the Santa Rosa Basque Club, took off last Thursday to compete in the World Mus Tournament in Macachin Argentina hosted by the Euzko Alkartasuna Basque Club. The duo is accompanied by their wives, NABO Mus Chair Pierre Etcharren, and Delegate Jose Urrutia, for the event that runs from Friday September 21-30, 2018. This year marks the 41st edition of this international tournament with twelve delegations attending representing Argentina, Canada, Chile, Euskadi, France, Mexico, Navarre, Peru, Spain, the United States, Uruguay, and Venezuela. Assistant Professor Position
Applications are now being accepted for an Assistant Professor of Basque Studies at the William A. Douglass Center for Basque Studies, at UNR, a vacancy created by the retirement of Dr. Joseba Zulaika who has been part of the Center since 1990. This is a tenure-track position (12-month contract) to start no later than July 1, 2019. Deadline to apply is November 2, 2018. Requirements include a Ph.D. in humanities or a social science discipline in the liberal arts, relevant to Basque studies. ABDs will also be considered if the degree is confirmed by July 1, 2019. The successful candidate will have a demonstrated record of scholarship and original research resulting in scholarly publications about the Basques, as well as experience in undergraduate teaching.
