Handia at Seattle International Film Festival
Our friends at the Seattle Euskal Etxea have let us know about a Basque film featured at this year's Seattle International Film Festival. Handia (Giant) directed by Aitor Arregi and Jon Garaño is based on true events, and tells the story of two brothers, one of whom is the tallest man in the world. The award winning film, boasting 10 Goyas including best Original Screenplay, Best New Actor and Best Original Soundtrack, will be shown on June 5th and June 6th at the SIFF Cinema Uptown, with director Jon Garaño attending both screenings. We have also been contacted by the Eusko Project asking for support. This project was selected, among 1,000 local initiatives, to participate in a contest sponsored by France's Ministry of Ecological and Solidarity Transition. If chosen, they would win 100,000 Euros towards the progression and expansion of their project. "The Eusko is a complementary local currency in the Basque Country, the largest in France and the 3rd in Europe with 3,000 individual members, and more than 700 businesses, farmers, liberal professions and associations, six municipalities and more that 750,000 Eusko in circulation (1 eusko = 1 euro)."
