Kern County Mus Results
The Kern County Basque Club held its annual Mus Tournament on Saturday, January 21st. The tournament gathered 32 teams who not only enjoyed a day of Mus and camaraderie, but also a "delicious rack of lamb and local lamb fries" for lunch. At the end of the day, John Lahargou and Mikael Lahargou, from Paso Robles, were victorious with locals, JB and Denise Veschembes coming in second. Zorionak!
SFBCC Mus Tournament
This weekend the San Francisco Basque Cultural Center will host its annual Mus Tournament on Sunday, January 29th. Registration will begin at 7am with play beginning promptly at 8am. At 12:30pm BCC members will enjoy a free lunch. For complete information please visit their website.
Big Horn Basque Club Annual Meeting
A little further east, also on Sunday the 29th, the Big Horn Basque Club in Buffalo, Wyoming will hold its annual meeting. The event will take place at the American Legion Hall beginning at noon. Members are encouraged to bring a dish to share, with the club providing lamb, cheese, rolls and wine. Membership dues are due on Sunday, $20 for individuals and $35 for families, and are payable at the door. Two positons on the board will also be open for election. Prior to the meeting, the Basque Club Choir will sing at 10am Mass at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. In preparing to host this year's NABO Convention, July 21-24th, they are encouraging everyone to get involved. There are currently 22 committees in force. Boise Philharmonic with Joaquin Achucarro This Weekend
Folks in Idaho will have two opportunities this weekend to hear a renowned Basque pianist, Joaquin Achucarro, perform with the Boise Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Alastair Willis. The first event will take place in Nampa, ID at the NNU's Brandt Center on Friday January 27th at 8pm. Pieces to be performed include: Debussy's Prelude to The Afternoon of a Faun; Grieg's Piano Concerto; and Shostakovich's Symphony No. 5. The next day, the Philharmonic and Achucarro will bring the same performance to Boise's Morrison Center also at 8pm. For more information, or to buy tickets, visit their website.
