Elko's National Basque Festival
Come join the Elko Euzkaldunak this weekend for their 54th annual National Basque Festival. Festivities begin at the clubhouse on Friday night with the Txupinazua, followed by dancing and herri kirolak. The city of Elko will also have its annual Fireworks Show on Friday night, and the clubhouse is a great place to watch. Saturday's festivities begin with a 5k, followed by the parade. This year's Grand Marshals are Alfonso and Mary Ygoa, Zorionak! After the parade, the action will move back to the clubhouse for more dancing, herri kirolak, contests, and lots of good food and drink. The evening will conclude with a public dance to live music. Sunday begins with mass followed by the traditional sheepherder's bread raffle. Afterwards there will be a BBQ lunch followed by more dancing and fun. For complete information please visit them on Facebook.
This weekend also marks the Southern California Basque Club's 71st annual picnic. The festivities begin on Saturday with dinner at 6:30pm with special entertainment provided by the Udaleku participants. Udaleku is underway in Chino thanks to the co-sponsorship of the Chino and Southern California Basque clubs. The Udaleku performance will be followed by a public dance to the music of Amerikanuak, aka the Jean Flesher band. The festivities continue on Sunday beginning with mass celebrated by Fr. Javier Altuna SJ, with the participation of Basque Dancers and the Klika. After mass there will be lunch, followed by more entertainment by the Udaleku kids, more dancing by the local club dancers, dinner and even more dancing to the music of Jean Flesher.
