Durangoko Azoka Honors Jose Ramon Zengotitabengoa

ZengotitabengoaThe Durangoko Azoka, the Basque Country's largest books and album fair, starts this Friday and runs through December 6th. The Azoka annually presents the Argizaiola Award to individuals who have served as "a light in the darkness" for Basque culture. Among this year's recipients is Jose Ramon Zengotitabengoa, representing the Diaspora among the awardees. Many in the NABO community will remember Jose Ramon as the President of the Society of Basque Studies in America, and as such, as a very loyal NABO delegate. The Society's annual Halls of Fame paid tribute to many deserving individuals in the US Basque community, thanks to Jose Ramon, and his dedicated team. He was inducted himself in 2009, at a ceremony held in Washington DC. He is also known as a promoter and supporter of Basque art in the US, including the Basque Sheepherder's Monument in Reno, NV. He also promoted the Amerikanoak Trainera project, which resulted in the creation of a Trainera that was then gifted to the Basque country from Basques in the US. He has also served on the William A. Douglass' Advisory Board. For more information on the award, as well as the other recipients, visit EuskalKultura.com. On behalf of everyone at NABO, our heartfelt congratulations and this well-deserved recognition! Zorionak Jose Ramon!
