Ontario Basque Club Event Coming Up
Ontario Basque Club will hold its 68th annual charity dinner, auction and dance on Saturday, February 28, 2015. The family-friendly event will be held at Four Rivers Cultural Center. The evening's activities include a Basque dinner, performance by the Beti Alai Dancers, live charity lamb auction and dancing to the music of Amuma Says No. There will be a photo booth and Basque family history display as well. Proceeds from the event are donated to local charities and also help fund the Marge Plaza Scholarship to Treasure Valley Community College.
Adult dinner-dance tickets are $25.00, children 3 to 12 years old are $7.50 and a dance only ticket (admittance after 7:30) is available for $10.00. Dinner tickets are pre-sale only. You may purchase online or call Maria (208) 739-1837 or Christina (541) 212-1163.
NABO Basque Film Library
For clubs who have been trying to change up their activities a bit, or who would like to start a local film series, NABO has established a Filmategi as part of the Hezkuntza/Education Committee that can help you on your way. The Basque Film Library allows NABO clubs to borrow films for viewing at club events, or at home. The DVD's have English subtitles and will play on US DVD or Blueray players. All you have to do is send an email with the title that you are interested in, and it will be sent to you. Here is a catalog of the current titles available.
Basque Mythology Children's book
We were contacted by the authors of Euskal Mitologia. Haurrentzako Ipuinak: Euskaldun Ipuin Herrikoien Bilduma (Basque Mythology for Kids) that is available on Amazon. The authors explain that these stories have been kept alive through oral tradition. Their hope was to take these stories and adapt them into kid-friendly language, and illustrate them to introduce today's children to "our cultural heritage in a natural and interesting way."
