Basque Club of Utah
The Basque Club of Utah will once again participate this weekend in the Carmelite Fair on Sunday, September 20th. The event, which runs from 11-4pm, includes entertainment, food and fun for all ages. This serves as the Carmelites' main fundraiser for the monastery and the nuns who live there, and is an annual event for the Basque club. Basque club members will be selling chorizo, while the Utah'ko Triskalariak will be performing at noon. For complete information on the fair, visit their website.
Euzko Etxea of New York
The Euzko Etxea of New York has organized a hiking day-trip on Sunday September 20th. The hike will take place at Harriman State Park, one hour from NYC, and will cover the Claudius Smith Den/Parker Cabin Mountain loop which includes several scenic views. The hike is free for EENY members, and depending on the numbers, people will travel in private vehicles or on public transportation. The hike will last approximately 6 hours, but an optional shorter route will also be made available for those who would like to bring their kids along. Everyone is responsible for all their own food and drink for the day, and proper hiking shoes are recommended. If you would like to participate please email Leire Areizaga. In the Footsteps of the Basque Whalers
For folks who are looking for an original way to learn more about the Basques, here's a perfect opportunity. In the Footsteps of the Basque Whalers tours will provide you the opportunity to retrace the steps of Basques in Newfoundland and Labrador from June 15-22, 2017. The tour will provide "an unprecedented cultural route that commemorates the history of the Basque whalers in Newfoundland and Labrador."
