Upcoming Events at Elko Basque Club
Elko, Nevada is the place to be this weekend! Basques from all over will gather on Saturday for the annual Txori Jatea and Sheepherder's Ball dinner/dance at the clubhouse (map) The Txori Jatea will begin at the Elko Basque Club around 12:30pm. All you can eat fowl with all the trimmings, combined with an afternoon of Mus and comradery. This will be followed at 5:30pm by dinner ($10) and dancing to the music of Jean Flesher. If that wasn't enough Euzkaldunak's Annual Mus Tournament, will take place on Sunday, again at the clubhouse, beginning at 8am for registration. Cost to participate is $20 for members and $50 for non-members. Gora Elko Euzkaldunak!
Basque Club of Utah
The Basque Club of Utah held its 14th annual Odolki Jatea and a mini-mus tournament on March 7th. The tournament began at 1pm and was single-elimination. Winners of the mini-Mus tournament were Jean Gaztambide and Scott Berriochoa with Phil and Sean Archibeque coming in second. Following the tournament, everyone enjoyed dinner prepared by club cooks and featuring homemade Odolkia, prepared by Pantxo Aguerre again with help from the membership. Biba ziek!
In the Footsteps of Basque Whalers
If you are in New York this weekend, the Delegation of the Basque Country, on behalf of The Explorers Club/Adventure Canada, along with 5A Incentive Planners invite you to a presentation of "In the Footsteps of Basque Whalers in Newfoundland and Labrador." The presentation will talk about the legacy and archeological traces of Basque Whalers from the 16th Century in Newfoundland and Labrador. The event will take place on Friday, March 13th at 6pm at The Explorers Club (map), 46 E 70th Street, New York, NY, 10021. The event is free and open to the public however reservations are suggested. Euzko Etxea of New York
It is with great sorrow that the Euzko Etxea of New York has shared news of the death of Zachary Berhau. Zachary served in many capacities in the club including as its NABO representative for many years.
