Grace Mainvil Memorial Scholarship for Udaleku
This year we are proud to introduce the Grace Mainvil Scholarship in memory of our beloved past treasurer who passed away late last year. This scholarship is open to those who are in their last year of eligibility of Udaleku (ie: will be 16 years of age before September 1, 2019. The winner of the scholarship will have their Udaleku tuition reimbursed by the scholarship fund and their entry will be featured on the N.A.B.O. website. Kern County Easter Celebration
The Kern County Basque Club will hold its annual Easter Celebration on April 1st. The festivities will begin at the KCBC at 10am with Mass celebrated by Monsignor Craig Harrison with the participation of the club's klika and choir. Please arrive early to guarantee yourself a seat. After mass there will be an Easter Egg hunt followed by a roast lamb luncheon. Cost of the meal if $25 for Adult members, $30 for non-members, $20 for honorary members and children under 12, non-member children will pay $25. Reservations are mandatory by March 23rd by contacting Joey Iturriria: 393-3165. There will also be a bake sale to raise money for the Jr. Dance group. Aberri Eguna in New York
Our friends in the East Coast at New York's Eusko Etxea will also be celebrating on April 1st. Their celebration will be in honor of Aberri Eguna, or the day of the Basque homeland. On Sunday, the bar will open at noon, with lunch being served at 1:30pm. The menu includes pintxos, fish, meat and dessert including beverages. You can also just attend without joining in for lunch, with drinks available for purchase at the bar. Prices for the day are adult full day (includes bar, pintxos and dinner) members: $60; Adult full-day non-members: $65; Child full day (ages 7 to 12): $35; Child under 7: FREE (no seat). Chino Basque Club 50th Anniversary
The Chino Basque Club would also like to invite everyone to its 50th anniversary celebration on April 7th from 4pm-11:55pm. The evening will include presentations by Mitch Gariador, Jeanette Bidart and Marianna Etcheverria, and a dance performance by Gauden Bat to the music of NOKA. Following the presentations there will be dinner and a sing a long, and of course music for everyone's dance enjoyment. Cost of the meal is $20 for adults and $10 for children. Chillida Exhibit in Dallas
News about a Chillida exhibit, "Memory, Mind, Matter: The Sculpture of Eduardo Chillida," in Dallas Texas, was also recently shared with us. Basque Library Technician 2 Position Available
We have been informed by Basque Librarian Iñaki Arrieta at the Jon Bilbao Basque Library that a Library Technician 2 position is now available. The incumbent will work as a member of the Jon Bilbao Basque Library and is responsible for managing circulation of materials, assisting users with library and online resources, developing metadata for digital items and uncataloged books, and maintaining files for digital images and audio/video recordings. Duties also include collection inventory management, maintaining the Basque Library website and social profiles, execution and development of exhibits and marketing campaigns, as well as, the supervision and training of student assistants.
