Txikifest,
New York City’s Txakoli Fair happens this Sunday at Txikito’s (240 9th
Avenue). This annual event is inspired by the culinary diversity of the city
and includes the participation of various area restaurants including: La
Newyorkina, Huricane Club, Kuma Inn/Uni Nom, Co & Sillivan St. Bakery, La
Palapa, Bar Mateo, and of course the hosts: Txikito, El Quinto Pino & La
Vara. Proceeds from this event will benefit the Sanctuary for Families which
provides services to victims of domestic and gender violence. For complete

8 HZ Radio Features NABO's 40th Anniversary
This
Sunday, June 2nd the first Sunday of the month, means another edition of 8
Herrialdeak Zuzenean. This month’s program will feature NABO’s 40th
anniversary with in-studio guests, Argitxu Camus – author of NABO’s Urazandi
Volume: The North American Basque Organizations (NABO), Incorporated = IPAR
Amerikako Euskal Elkarteak : 1973-2007, and Aita Cachenaut. Interviews with
NABO President, Valerie Arrechea, and other prominent figures in the history
of the organization are also planned. To hear the program go to:

We
also received word that Martin Etchart’s book The Last Shepherd was awarded
a gold medal in the Multicultural Fiction Adult category at the Independent
Publisher Book Awards. In the author’s words, “The Last Shepherd is the
story of a young man’s search for an identity that encompasses two very
different cultures and one complex, scattered family.” The awards ceremony
took place today, May 29th in New York, on the eve of the BookExpo America
convention. The book was published by the University of Nevada Press and is
