Message from Outgoing NABO President Valerie Arrechea

Valerie ArrecheaAfter eight wonderful years as NABO president, I am stepping aside and will take the role of Vice President. During these past years I have had the opportunity to experience monumental events in our culture, and meet incredible individuals in our communities on both the local and international levels.

I would like to thank those who I have worked with - the NABO officers, chairmen and delegates who keep our organization running smoothly due to their passion and dedication to their culture. They are an inspiration and keep our important projects vibrant and on track. Most importantly, I would like to thank our Basque communities and their members. The best part of these past eight years has been getting to know you. Without our members who are committed to living their culture, NABO wouldn't exist.

I would like to introduce our new president, Annie Gavica. Originally from Winnemucca, and now residing Boise, Annie is familiar with the challenges and successes faced by both small and large clubs. She has been a part of the Santa Rosa Basque Club, Boise Euzkaldunak, the Oinkari Basque Dancers, and the Basque Museum. She has a unique perspective that will benefit NABO, and will do a great job in supporting our communities.

I will remain very active in NABO. You don't need a title or position to do work, and I have a few projects that I want to focus on. I especially want to work on projects that affect our youth and give them a reason to want to identify as Basque and live their culture.

Milesker deneri - I could not have done it without you.

Valerie Arrechea
